TRIPLE HOLY DAY: HANUMAN'S BIRTHDAY, FULL MOON, & PASSOVER

Sunday dawned a triple header: HANUMAN'S BIRTHDAY, THE FULL MOON, AND PASSOVER (the Jewish celebration of freedom).

While the devotees upstairs in the cosmic temple were completing the first 107 rounds of the Hanuman Chalisa, Baba inscribed the sacred mantra of the name of Lord Hanuman in the teaching room below. Double letters, he said, are very unusual and hard to do! The Sanskrit scholars in the ashram will appreciate these!

OM HANUMATE NAMAH! Greetings to the divine Hanuman - our inner cosmic breath and vitality, our inner power.

Hanuman's Birthday was celebrated by the singing 108 times of the Hanuman Chalisa. The devotees began at 5 AM. Baba sang the last Hanuman Chalisa, and then performed a final blessing puja. Then, after prasaad (blessed food offered to the attendees), Baba delighted us even more by then singing bhajans (devotional hymns) for another hours in praise of Lord Hanuman.

The day concluded with a Passover seder - holy meal and re-enactment of the story of the gift of our freedom. Going from darkness, ignorance and slavery to light, knowledge and freedom. We were invited to be special guests at his ancient Jewish holiday ritual. The similarities of the spiritual journey in all traditions was quite apparent. Even the word GURU means: from darkness to light.

SPRING CONTINUES TO UNFOLD ON THE BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS OF ANANDA ASHRAM - SO WELCOME AFTER THE LONG COLD WINTER!

Spring just continually amazes and delights us - especially after the rigors of the cold northern winters, and the thick gloppy mud of early snow-melt and spring rains.

In the Ramayana, the gods descended onto planet Earth in the forms of monkeys and bears - forms the evil one Ravana thought could do him no harm. Here is one bear engrossed in the Hanuman Chalisa - 40 verses in praise of the supreme Lord who incarnated as super-monkey Hanuman to help rid the world of evil.

Ramdas brought his synthesizer over for Baba to play on. The ancient songs of the Ramayan a take on a new feel in a new culture. The Ramayan teachings and epic story have spread all over the world - transferring from culture to culture to culture. Baba explained the story is more than one million years old. One can only wonder how many cultures and civilizations and galaxies the story exists in.
